Food and Wine Trail for Selwyn District
December 10, 2010 0 Comments
The Selwyn Food and Wine Trail aims to showcase to residents and visitors the range of wineries, food producers, transport and accommodation providers in the Selwyn District. Earlier in the year Dr. Joanna Fountain, Senior Lecturer in Tourism at Lincoln University, met with a number of these operators to discuss options for wine tourism development in the region.
Twelve local wineries are included on this trail, including a number with cellar doors, vineyard cafes and accommodation. This trail is one of four trails under the banner of ‘Canterbury Food and Wine Trails’ with the others being located in north, mid and south Canterbury.
At the launch of the trail the range of interesting food and wine products available locally was immediately apparent. Perhaps of greatest significance was the clear evidence of the benefits of collaboration and establishing regional networks such as this one to capitalise on the unique points of difference of Selwyn’s produce; in this case focusing on the artisanal and handcrafted nature of the wine and food of the region.
