Dr Bruce Archibald, the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for Ontario visited the Centre for Viticulture and Oenology in February 2007.
The visit was hosted by Dr Roland Harrison as part of a week long study tour of a number of New Zealand’s premier research institutions. The focus of the visit to Lincoln University was to understand how the University contributed to the wider research effort in grape growing and wine making.
Dr Archibald met with a number of researchers in the Centre as well as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr Chris Kirk. The visit was wide-ranging; from a tour of the University winery to discussions with Daisy Dawson, a Lincoln PhD student studying wine tourism. Other inter-disciplinary research undertaken in the Viticulture and Oenology Research Centre including the ‘Greening Waipara’ and Sauvignon Blanc programmes was also highlighted.
